This past week has brought packing, painting, and cleaning.  Not much worthy of a picture.  But this upcoming week should have all kinds of exciting photos between the move and a birthday.  I am tired of living in limbo and feeling the need to find routine again.  We've reached the point when our girls are asking where some of their stuff is, and, well, it's packed.  I'm glad to know we won't be moving again for a long while.  Now, just to figure out where everything is going to go.

Happy Easter

Happy Easter Everyone!

We dyed eggs on Friday night.  It was fun.  It was also nice when all the eggs were done so we could dispose of the leftover dye and glitter.

Yesterday the Easter bunny came (the Easter bunny we know comes on Saturdays, always has, always will).  The girls were thrilled with new toys and candy.  The egg hunt was fun, too.

Today was a nice reminder at church that because of our Savior, Jesus Christ, that there is a purpose to our being here.  There is a goal to work toward.  There is hope.  So grateful for that.

Oops, dropped one.

I made bread this morning and shaped it into 3 different kinds of bunnies.  Two of the shapes did not turn out as cute as wanted.  The last ones did, so those will be used for our Easter dinner tonight.

April Fools

  • Mess up calendar - check
  • Hide food coloring under cereal  - check! (didn't work too well though)
  • Paint the bar of soap in the shower with clear nail polish so it won't lather - check!! (nice one!)
  • Make a really great April Fools Dinner - check!!!

Sweet Pea 1 was supper confused all day, but mainly worried why I was going off my rocker for dinner.

Bye, Bye, Long Locks

Almost a year ago, Jake quit cutting his hair.

The last time he cut it was the 2nd to last guard drill that he went to.

It has gotten longer and longer.  He loves it, especially flipping it around.

He is also experiencing things I (and most girls) have experienced for a long time: brushing long hair, the need for conditioner, blow dryers, and most notably, going through stages of letting your hair grow out.  Ya, it takes patience.

In January he let the girls (with my help) put pony tails in his hair.

It was fun!  I was hoping Jake would show the girls how to be tough when taking out a hair elastic, but instead he sympathized with them. (We have since bought different hair elastics to help ease the pain.)

Then the inevitable happened.

The scissors had to come out.

And just like that the long locks were gone.

And by that I mean mine were.

Jake's hair is still going strong growing long.  He is almost to a stage where he can put in in one ponytail in the back.  Not quite though.  If he cut bangs he could.  But let's not suggest that to him, okay?

Pasta, Greens, & Beans

We made this for dinner a while back. It was our second time trying this recipe and it was great again! I tore the recipe out of a magazine ages ago.  I didn't take any in-progress pictures, because I was trying to get dinner on the table quickly. My family gobbled this up and we were scraping the pan. I used ham lunch meat because that is what I had on hand, but I think making this to use up a left-over ham would be superb.

I loved it because it was simple, used basic ingredients, and it was a pasta dish (i.e. a toddler's first love) without tomato sauce (i.e. much easier clean-up of said toddler). Good thing there is a picture on recipe website for y'all cause mine isn't the best photo. Can't wait to try the other versions.

8 oz ziti
2 Tbsp olive oil
2 cups chopped onion
1 celery stalk, chopped
3 cups chopped cabbage, preferably savory or napa
1/2 cup chopped ham
1 cup sodium-free chicken or other stock or water
3 cups cooked or canned cannellini or other white beans
Freshly grated ground black pepper
Freshly grated Parmesan

Bring large pot of water to a boil over high heat and salt it.  Add the pasta and cook until tender but not mushy, 8 to 10 minutes; drain and set aside.

While the pasta is cooking, place the oil in a large skillet over medium heat; when hot, add the onion and celery and cook until just wilted, 3 to 4 minutes.  Then add the ham, stock, and beans;  sprinkle with salt and pepper and cook until everything is heated through. - 5 to 7 minutes.  If it seems dry, add a little more stock or water; it should be moist, but not soupy.

Add the pasta to the bean mixture and stir gently.  Taste and adjust the seasoning, sprinkle with Parmesan.
