Cakes

Have you seen this site about cakes?

Oh so hilarious.

My Favorites are these:

Just go take a look if you need a smile. And definitely check out the sidebar links of "Some Fan Favorites"

We'll have...

Yes, she'll have a cup of whole milk, a blankie, a Minnie, a froggy, and some rocking.

And, I'll have some more dinner (since my hasty dinner on the way out the door to class must not have been enough - thank goodness for a sweet babysitter so I don't have to worry about feeding Helen when I am late), an Excedrin, and some Hot Chocolate.
--
These were our requests as we went to bed last night. I had a weird headache that I was sure was going to turn into a migraine. I was trying to figure out how to manage a migraine with a child (haven't had one since Helen was born) & without Jake. Thankfully, I was able to get to sleep and it didn't turn into a headache. Helen woke up right after I got done rocking her so needless to say, I woke up with Minnie and Froggy in my bed this morning. Not Helen - She allowed me to see every hour number on the clock last night. She went to her own bed after the first hour. Luckily Heavenly Father blessed me and I did not wake up with my headache. Feeling great this morning - not so sure about Helen - she had a really hard night.

Tuesday Thoughts

  • In the wee hours of Tuesday morning I realized I had no quick food to eat with the ibuprofen I was taking...Mother's Circus Cookies count as food when you are taking medicine, right??
  • Helen slept for 5 1/2 hours straight last night. And then for another 3 hours. Wahoo!
  • I love this catalog that randomly came in the mail for me today: Uncommon Goods
  • How in the world did I get Helen to bed before 9pm tonight? Wow, I could go for this more often.

Not Timeless

This post is going to date me. I'm 29. That is young, But last night made me feel very old. But I did gain a realization that I have changed in the last 17 years. Thankfully. I'd hate to still be a young girl in Jr. High. Growing up was my kinda thing.

Last night was loud. Very loud. There were tears - but they were caused by the fog machines and the smoke from the fireworks, not from the swooning excitement of seeing men on stage. Yes, it was 17 years ago when boys were first starting to be important to me, and I was at that age where I'd flip through Teen and cut out all the pictures of my heartthrobs to hang in my locker. NOTE: one of them was of Kevin Costner dressed as Robin Hood Prince of Thieves which had just come out.

I never took the chance to see any heartthrob in person. But 17 years later, my best friend from high school and I decided to relive 7th and 8th grade. Why? you may ask. Don't ask me - I have yet to figure that out myself. But it was fun. And I had a great time having a girls' night out.

Besides catching up with Bethany, the funnest part was watching the crowd. Who knew there were so many followers aging 50 to about 12? There were two kids about age 2 there too. Why? I have yet to figure that out as well. Reading the screen of text messages people sent in before it started was also quite amusing. I felt like I was one of few not still in love with them.

There act wasn't timeless. It is not the style of music I grew into as I grew up in the last 17 years. But they were "all that" when I was young and a small part of my age when crushes and puppy love were being defined to me. They were the first of the boy bands of my generation and so it is said, they were key in defining boy bands. So I relived a little history last night - but that was all it was was history.

I won't be my last concert as I have to have something a little better to tell my kids "The last big arena concert I saw was___", but it will be my first and last concert with them as the stars. For now, and as far into the future as I can see, my grown-up tastes of Leo Kottke, and my love for the real oldies are what I enjoy hearing and of course attending this or this live would be entertaining. No screaming audience, no loss of hearing, no fog and smoke to irritate my eyes. Just simple listening pleasure.

I don't know why I still have a cassette tape
- I haven't had a cassette player in years.

And to Jordan, Jonathon, Danny, Joey, and Donny...you may have once been my heartthrobs and I had a NKOTB beach towel once, but, sorry, you are not even in my thoughts any more. I now have Jake and his pink towel, and that is all I want.

I love you, Jake! You are my heartthrob!

A Blind Date and 5 Years

Five years ago this evening Jake and I met. We met in the entry way/kitchen of my apartment at Continental Apts. It was a blind date set up by my friend who served in the same mission as Jake. We ate potato soup and salad. I had asked Jake to help with the salad - I will never forget the look of bewilderment as he took on that assignment (the last 5 years has helped his cooking confidence and skills). Then we played some board games with the other couple (she who set us up and her boyfriend). Afterward, I thought I would never see Jake again because I was so shy I hardly talked to him the whole night. I would later find out he thought he could never date me because "I was out of his league". Both of us are happy that we got past those beliefs. The next 5 years are sweet history with many wonderful memories.

Here are the first pictures ever taken of us as a dating couple:

To commemorate the best blind date in my world here is 5 things Jake and I have experienced since then. No, there is not one from every year, just one for every year.

  • Finding out together on the same day that Pepperidge Farms is not based in Cache Valley. The disappointment was fierce.
  • Eating at a fairly, okay, they had a maitre d', so very nice restaurant in Pacific Grove in hoodies. Ugh - next time I am not letting Jake talk me into that.
  • The strange prank phone call in the middle of the night that left the two of us huddled together on the bed and Jake wouldn't let me get to use the bathroom at first because someone might be able to see us through a widow if I left the bedroom.
  • A huge explosion (almost sounded like a gun shot) outside our door in Logan one day. Jake was suddenly on point and ready to hurt whatever was invading us. Come to find out our great friends and neighbors were playing with dry ice and water bottles.
  • Getting stuck on a rock in Monterey Bay near Cannery Row as the tide came in. We had quite the audience clapping for us as we kissed and then tried to figure out how to get back to shore.

Tribute to my Grandpa

This morning's daily routine was broken today. My mom called me and said that my dear grandpa passed away. And why I am so sad, I am grateful for the good life he lived and the great example he was, in and out of church callings. I will always remember how he like Arby's and why he didn't like the other places, had a certain station to fill up on gas (a Chevron in Bountiful), how it was from him that I learned to "read" the TV, and how he always tended to my grandma with sweetness. But mainly I really will remember that he was a good man and wanted the best for his family. I love you Grandpa, and we will miss you.

I believe these two pictures were taken on my grandparents' honeymoon.
Congratulations to them for 60 years as a married couple and eternity to go.

This is how I knew and will remember my grandpa.
He was a good, honest valiant, and dedicated man.
