Happy Birthday Ladybug!

Here is the cake I made Helen for her 1st birthday. It was adorable. I made it with a dome inside dome cake pan.

Banana Pancackes

So Jake and I love Jack Johnson's song Banana Pancakes. One morning we had a date and made banana pancakes. I had tweaked a recipe to make it just like we like it. They turned out wonderful. We ate grilled cinnamon pineapple, dried figs, and blackberries with the pancakes.

The tweaked and perfect-for-us recipe is as follows:

2 large ripe bananas
1 1/2 cup flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp vanilla
dash of grated nutmeg
1 tbsp sugar
1 cup milk
2 eggs

1 tbsp vegetable oil

2 additional bananas to slice and serve over pancakes
maple syrup

Mash bananas and set aside. Blend dry ingredients in a medium bowl. Add banana and wet ingredients to bowl and blend everything well. Use oil to grease griddle. Heat griddle on low heat. Pour 1/3 cup spots of batter onto griddle and turn when bubble pop but don't fill back in with batter. Cook a few more minutes then serve.

Little People

Helen loves the vintage little people we borrowed from Grandpa and Grandma Marble. We have returned them now, but when she had them she would have to carry two (one in each hand) everywhere she went. This particular day she would not put them down to get a drink.

Macaroni Art

So remember in kindergaten when you made art with macaroni?? I swear I had nothing do with this photo other than taking it. It came out of the microwave like that and I thought, "Whoa!...That is pretty artsy macaroni."
